CHRISTIAN ROSENKREUTZ
(1378 - 1484)
This was the symbolic name of the founder of the Rosicrucian Order. It has not been verified his existence since that this name does not correspond with any personage that have existed. Christian Rosenkreutz means in German "Christian Rosicrucian". Some investigators agree that this was a personage created in the mind of Johann Valentín Andreae (1586 - 1654), shepherd and German Lutheran reformist, who wrote perhaps the three manifest in Kassel, Germany, between 1640 and 1615 "Famma Fraternitatis" (News of the Fraternity) and "Confessio Fraternitatis" (Confessions of the Fraternity), and in 1616 "Chimische Hochzeit" (The Chemical Wedding) that completed the saga of these three legendary manifests. Therefore this is the beginning of the Rosicrucian Order in his public phase. The most trusted Rosicrucian investigators believe that this personage (Christian Rosenkreutz) was an indispensable and mythical personage, in the same way that it is Hiram Abiff for the freemasonry. The myth tells us that Christian Rosenkreutz lived 106 years and his body was founded uncorrupted inside a crypt (with very symbolic dimensions). At the front door of that tomb there was a writing saying "I will be opened each 120 years". The majority of the Rosicrucian members believe that this writing announces the rebirthing of a new Rosicrucian Brotherhood each 120 years, that would be the natural cycle of life of a "Rosicrucian Organization" (C.R.C.). |
